Obituary of Robert John Shearer

Robert John Shearer “Bob” unexpectedly passed away at the age of 79 on March 18, 2024. Bob was born on December 3, 1944 to William “Pat” Shearer and Ethel Shearer (Thompson). He graduated from TL Handy High School in 1962, and went on to get a Bachelor’s Degree in secondary education from Ferris State University. His Bachelor’s Degree was followed by a Master’s degree in Counseling from Central Michigan University. 

Bob spent his entire career working for Bangor Township Schools as a fifth-grade teacher, high school science teacher, guidance counselor and assistant principal. He retired in 2002. Bob “Mr. Shearer” touched many lives during his career in education. He inspired and supported many students and staff and carried himself with kindness and compassion throughout his long career. 

He was married to Judy Shearer (Cooper) in 1975. Bob had 3 daughters, Robin Wright (Shearer) Marnie Cardone (Shearer) , and Lindsay Keiser (Shearer);  and six grandchildren, Zach Cardone, Molly Wright, Sean Wright, Sophia Keiser, Ava House, and Cooper House. 

Bob was an integral part of the Bay City community. He spent many years volunteering for the River Roar and Habitat for Humanity. Bob enjoyed his years in retirement traveling, cheering at events for his grandchildren, riding his Harley, camping, having coffee with his coffee crew, and golfing. Bob loved Bay City and was a dedicated friend and colleague. 

Bob was predeceased by his parents, William and Ethel Shearer. He is survived by his wife, Judy Shearer (Cooper); his daughters, Robin Wright (Rob Wright), Marnie Cardone, and Lindsay Keiser (Vince Keiser); grandchildren; brother, Jim Shearer; sister-in-law, Anne Shearer (Fosler); nieces and nephews, William Shearer, James Shearer, and Katherine Lawrence (Shearer); as well as cousins; many beloved friends; and his dog, Bailey. 

Bob will be remembered as a dedicated teacher, husband, father, grandfather and friend. His legacy of unconditional love and kindness will be everlasting. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Robert J. Shearer Legacy Fund. This fund will support students in need at John Glenn High School by offering financial support to help students further their education through camps/activities, and to provide the support they need to reach for their dreams. Make checks payable to the: Bay Area Community Foundation, with Robert Shearer Fund noted, and send to 1000 Adams St., Bay City, MI 48708. 

A celebration of life will be held at Bay Valley Resort and Conference Center, 2470 Old Bridge Rd. Bay City, MI, on Thursday, May 9, 2024 from 5:30-8:00pm.
